While nomenclature varies, drinks described as hot cocoa generally do not contain cocoa butter, while drinks described as hot chocolate may contain cocoa butter.
The beverage became popular in Europe after being introduced from what is now Mexico in the New World.
When made with white chocolate, the beverage is referred to as white hot chocolate.

Hot Chocolate Mix recipe
Ingredients3 cups confectioners' sugar
3 cups nonfat dry milk powder
2 cups miniature marshmallows
1 cup non-dairy powdered coffee creamer
1 cup cocoa powder
4 teaspoons cinnamon
Preparation1. Mix all ingredients together well.
2. Store in an airtight container.
3. To serve, place 1/4 cup mix in cup and add 3/4 cup hot milk, stirring until mix is well blended.
