Ash Wednesday (also called Holly Wednesday or Spy Wednesday) is the Wednesday of the Holy Week, the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days (40 days not counting Sundays) before Easter. It is followed by Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday).
Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents, to symbolize their repentance for wrongdoings, their mortality and their commitment to Jesus and the Almighty. The ashes used are typically gathered after the Palm Crosses from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned.
This sometimes called as "Spy Wednesday" coz this is indicating the day that Judas Iscariot first conspired with the Sanhedrin to betray Jesus for thirty silver coins.
Actually tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, and this is the first time I take part on it.. hoho.. and will be continue with fasting, fasting is mean that we are permitted to consume only one full meal, which may be supplemented by two smaller meals, which together should not equal the full meal every friday before Easter come.. ^^
